Our New Project

Well, whilst out walking, we decided we will create a book or booklet about our special Gin recipes.

This is something we will be working on over the next couple of months as the fruit season comes to a head, and by December if you follow our guide, you will have some really nice to drink gins or vodka.

June, July

Start with the searching out the lowest price gin and vodka you can lay your hands on ideally these will have screw top bottles or tight fitting cork toppers (not wine corks). Go to your low cost supermarket or bulk purchase schemes such as Aldi, Lidl, Costco and many other sources. Remember, don't spend on quality alcohol, its not required. The fruit will work its magic and bring the alcohol to life.

Also at this time, you need to be collecting suitable vessels to process and store the fruits of you labour.

We have found the 5KG plastic containers originally used for couscous are an excellent storage vessel for processing the fruit and alcohol.

So you maybe thinking how much can I make? well, typically a 1 litre bottle of alcohol will yield 1.5 litres of finished product.

August, September, October

Now is your time to start searching the local hedgerows for various fruits.

Our favourite is the Sloe berry, we are also going to broaden our horizons this year and try some Blackberry and if luck is on our side, maybe even some Elderberry.

Tip:

Take the fruits from waist height or higher for obvious hygiene reasons.

So what are you looking for:
